who we are

MODRN GR began in 2018- the result of Owner + Principal Designer, Katie Lyons-Church, wanting to provide modern housewares and furniture for the neighborhood’s apartment dwellers and first time homeowners that would be on trend, and of great quality without breaking the bank. 

After some time, Katie became a go to consultant for folks who needed to talk space planning and mixing styles, materials, and finishes. as MODRN’s customers grew in their homes and need for elevated products, Katie knew that the path forward was through a deeper dive into the design process. She expanded MODRN’s offerings to include our current lineup of cabinets, countertop materials, luxury viynl plank and engineered hardwood floors, carpet, and tile as well as sourcing smaller details like hardware and lighting.

Perhaps the biggest and most exciting change came when Katie partnered with our building consultant- Henry Westerhuis. Having owned his own construction company since 2018, Henry brought the technical knowledge of building and renovating to the table which allows MODRN to confidently be able to provide finishes and recommend applications that are builder tested and approved. Henry continues to be a familiar face in the studio to help with all things construction and his company, RENDR Custom Homes, uses MODRN exclusively as their supplier of materials for their current lineup of projects.
